Brittany Local Information
Brittany is a land of tradition, blessed with a favourable climate and, being so easy to reach from Britain, makes an ideal holiday area. The coastline offers countless sandy beaches, rock pools and breathtaking views.
The Spring is mild and the countryside is possibly at its most beautiful - ablaze with the golden hue of gorse, the hedgerows full of an abundance of wild flowers and alive to the song of birds. Nature lovers enjoy the peace of long, scented spring days and little country roads, that even today see few cars.
During July and August the atmosphere changes, as resorts welcome the many tourists to the area, with beaches and restaurants brimming full of life.

Food
The Breton gastronomic delights are countless, but in particular the shellfish and seafood of this region are incomparable. Many restaurants specialise in “Fruits de la Mer” - large platters are served piled high with shrimps, langoustine, crayfish, crabs, mussels and oysters.
A contrasting gourmet delight can be found in the “Creperies”, small family restaurants often in delightful thatched cottages offering an entire menu of savoury or sweet pancakes. They are reasonably priced and appealing to children and adults alike.
Highlights
Each Breton village has its traditional dress which is richly embroidered and coloured, and a head-dress which is a lace coife and in some areas, particularly Pont L’Abbe, is very tall. Women wearing the head-dress can often be seen on market days. The Breton dress is also worn to “Pardons” which are religious festivals attended by large gatherings. Each village has its own but enquire locally at the resort of your choice for one taking place during your stay. Everyone is welcome.
